Zubeen Garg's Final Journey: Public Homage at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati, to Honor the Beloved Singer.

Following the tragic death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore on September 19, 2025, his mortal remains will be placed at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex (Sarusajai Stadium) in Guwahati on September 21, 2025, for public tribute. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the public can pay their respects from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The Assam government has declared a three-day state mourning from September 20 to September 22. During this period, there will be no official entertainment, ceremonial programs, or public celebrations.

Zubeen Garg, 52, passed away after a scuba diving accident in Singapore. He reportedly fell into the sea and lost consciousness, and breathed his last in the intensive care unit. Just a day before the tragic news, Zubeen had shared a message on social media, inviting everyone to the 4th North East India Festival.

News of Zubeen's death has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his shock at the sudden demise of the singer, acknowledging his rich contribution to music. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam has lost "one of its favourite sons". Politicians like Pijush Hazarika and Gaurav Gogoi, and artists like Papon and Pritam, have also paid tribute to the singer, recognizing him as Assam's irreplaceable voice and cultural heartbeat.

Thousands of fans gathered in Guwahati to pay their final tributes to the legendary singer. Emotional crowds chanted "Joi Zubeen Da!" and sang classics. The Assam government has requested cooperation from the public to ensure that the final journey of Assam's beloved son is conducted with dignity. A cabinet meeting will be held on Sunday at 6 PM to decide on the cremation venue.

Zubeen Garg is survived by his wife. His legacy includes over 16,000 songs in Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, and other languages.
