After sharing screen space in the iconic 1997 war drama "Border," Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna are reportedly set to reunite for a high-octane OTT thriller. According to reports, the film, tentatively titled "Ikka," will be directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, known for directing films like "We Are Family," "Hichki," and "Maharaj".

"Ikka" marks Sunny Deol's official foray into the digital space. The project was initially planned as a remake of the Hollywood action thriller "Death Sentence" (2007), but the idea was dropped, and the makers are now working on an original script. The new script will showcase Sunny Deol in a fresh and unconventional role. Not much else is known about the plot.

The film is expected to be a two-hero film with Sunny and Akshaye as parallel leads. Akshaye Khanna's role is expected to highlight his range and on-screen intensity, creating a powerful pairing with Sunny Deol. Besides Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, the film will also feature Dia Mirza, Tillotama Shome, and Tanushree Dutta in key roles.

Reportedly, Sunny Deol has signed the project for a whopping ₹30 crore, a record-breaking fee for the digital platform. Speaking about his foray into the digital space, Sunny Deol said, “Why not? Millions of people watch films on OTT platforms. As long as the offer is good, OTT is fine. I can't be doing Gadar each time. To stay relevant, we need to be realistic".

The reunion of Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna after 28 years since "Border" has generated considerable excitement among fans. "Border," directed by J.P. Dutta, was based on the Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pak War of 1971 and featured an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Jackie Shroff. The film was a massive success and is still remembered fondly.

Shooting for "Ikka" is expected to commence in Mumbai soon and is expected to wrap up before Malhotra shifts focus to his passion project, "Kamal Aur Meena". The film is expected to release on Netflix in 2026.

While some fans are thrilled to see Sunny Deol in "Ikka," others are disappointed that he is not prioritizing big-screen films. With Sunny Deol's massive fan base, "Ikka" is likely to draw huge viewership when it premieres on Netflix. All eyes are now on "Ikka" to see if it becomes Netflix's next big hit.
