Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan spotted back in Mumbai following the inaugural ISPL cricket league event.

Mumbai – Following a star-studded opening ceremony and initial matches of the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) 2026 in Surat, Gujarat, Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have returned to Mumbai. The father-son duo were in Surat to support Majhi Mumbai, the team co-owned by Amitabh Bachchan and Neeti Agarwal.

The opening of the third season of the ISPL was held on January 9, 2026, at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. The event was marked by the presence of several Bollywood celebrities and cricketing legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar, Suriya, and Ram Charan. Sachin Tendulkar, a core committee member of the ISPL, made a memorable entry carrying the ISPL trophy in a Porsche 911.

Amitabh Bachchan's presence at the ISPL opening garnered significant attention. Upon his arrival in Surat, a massive crowd of fans gathered at the airport to catch a glimpse of the actor, causing chaotic scenes and raising safety concerns. Security personnel struggled to manage the enthusiastic crowd, and videos circulated online showed people rushing towards him. While there were reports of a glass panel breaking during the commotion, Bachchan was not injured.

During the opening ceremony, Amitabh Bachchan was seen interacting with other actors and personalities from the film industry. He is a co-owner of Majhi Mumbai, one of the eight teams participating in the ISPL 2026. Other celebrity-owned teams include Tiigers of Kolkata (co-owned by Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan), Srinagar Ke Veer (owned by Akshay Kumar), Chennai Singams (co-owned by Suriya), Bengaluru Strikers (co-owned by Hrithik Roshan), Falcon Risers Hyderabad (co-owned by Ram Charan), Delhi Superheros (owned by Salman Khan) and Ahmedabad Lions (co-owned by Ajay Devgn).

The ISPL is India's first tennis-ball T10 cricket tournament played inside a stadium. This year, the league is being held from January 9 to February 6 at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. The tournament features eight franchises competing across 44 matches. The league aims to provide a platform for street cricketers to showcase their talent and gain recognition. Season 3 saw nationwide trials across 101 cities, attracting a staggering 4.4 million registrations. From these, 408 players made the auction pool, with 144 eventually earning contracts across the eight teams.

Majhi Mumbai, the defending champions from ISPL season 2, have started their title defense in style. In a recent match, Majhi Mumbai secured a 27-run victory over Ahmedabad Lions. All-rounder Abhishek Kumar Dalhor produced a match-winning spell, claiming a sensational five-wicket haul.

The ISPL 2026 season promises high-octane action, with matches broadcast on the Star Sports Network and live streaming available on JioHotstar. The final is scheduled for February 6, 2026. With its blend of celebrity ownership and grassroots talent, the ISPL continues to redefine India's cricketing ecosystem.
