Originally, Dostana 2 was intended to star Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya, with Lakshya set to make his debut. However, the project was delayed, and eventually, Kartik Aaryan exited the film. Now, Vikrant Massey has stepped in to take on the lead role alongside Lakshya.
Massey confirmed his involvement in the film in an interview with Times Now, stating, "You will see me doing that soon. I think this news is already out. I don't know why I'm not talking. I'm doing Dostana 2. I'm doing my first Dharma movie". He also hinted at a significant change in his on-screen persona for the film. "Usme you will see me wearing good designer clothes. Karan (Johar) sir will make sure that I have wear good clothes and I wear those fancy sunglasses. Shooting somewhere in Europe," Massey revealed.
While Massey and Lakshya are confirmed as the male leads, the female lead remains a mystery. Massey has chosen not to disclose who will play the female lead, suggesting that Karan Johar will make a big announcement regarding the female lead. Reports suggest that the makers are considering casting a debutante actress in the role.
According to Pinkvilla, Dostana 2 has been in development at Dharma Productions for quite some time, and the producers have developed a compelling script that will carry the franchise ahead in a progressive way. The makers are aiming to begin filming in January 2026 and release it by the end of the same year. However, recent reports indicate that the shooting might begin in February.
