Teyana Taylor has walked back her initial claim regarding a viral moment featuring Leonardo DiCaprio at the 2026 Golden Globes. The actress initially believed DiCaprio was speaking to her in the widely circulated clip. The video showed DiCaprio animatedly talking and laughing with someone across the table during the awards ceremony, sparking curiosity among viewers about his conversation.
Taylor, who stars alongside DiCaprio in "One Battle After Another," initially told Access Hollywood that they were discussing the animated Netflix film, "KPop Demon Hunters". She explained that her children are fans of the movie, and she was excited about its wins for Best Motion Picture (Animated) and Best Original Song. Taylor thought DiCaprio caught her "jamming" to the film's song, "Golden," which led to their conversation.
However, Taylor clarified the situation during an appearance on "The Tonight Show" on Wednesday, January 14. She told Jimmy Fallon that DiCaprio was not speaking to her in the viral video. Taylor explained that she had jumped to conclusions after seeing the clip and the lip-reading interpretations online.
"Okay, so look, yesterday, I thought I broke the Da Vinci Code, right?" Taylor said, referring to her earlier interview. She added, "So when I first seen [the clip], I didn't watch the whole thing," Taylor explained. "So, I was like, 'Oh you're talking about 'KPop Demon Hunters,' he's talking about me.'".
Taylor then contacted DiCaprio to clarify. "I had to call Leo. I was like, 'You can't be talking to me. Were you talking to me? Because I already told people you was talking to me,'". It turns out DiCaprio had multiple conversations about "KPop Demon Hunters" that night and didn't even remember who he was talking to in the clip. "So apparently he had two KPop Demon Hunter conversations that night, so KPop Demon Hunters was just in his mouth all night,” Taylor said.
Taylor jokingly expressed "friendly jealousy," wondering who else DiCaprio was "kekeing" with in such an animated way. "He didn't even remember who he was talking to. He was like 'I don't even know,'" she recounted.
Despite the misunderstanding, Taylor and DiCaprio share a close bond. They met at Diana Ross' birthday party years ago and "instantly became best buds". At the Critics Choice Awards, Taylor affectionately called DiCaprio "Pops," which he found amusing.
"One Battle After Another" had a successful night at the Golden Globes, winning four awards, including Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Supporting Actress for Taylor. Both Taylor and DiCaprio have received nominations for the upcoming Actor Awards. The initial confusion surrounding DiCaprio's viral Golden Globes moment has been cleared up, adding a humorous footnote to the awards season.
