A recent report by Tech Informer, placing comedian and YouTuber Tanmay Bhat's net worth at a staggering ₹665 crore, has sparked a humorous reaction from the content creator himself. The report, which identified Bhat as the richest YouTuber in India, quickly went viral on social media, triggering a wave of disbelief and amusement.
Bhat, known for his witty sketches, roast videos, and social commentary, responded to the claims with a touch of self-deprecating humor on X (formerly Twitter). "Bhai itne paise hote toh main YouTube membership nahi bech raha hota," he quipped, implying that if he possessed such wealth, he wouldn't be relying on YouTube memberships for income. This translates to: "If I had that much money, I wouldn't be selling YouTube memberships".
The Tech Informer report positioned Bhat far ahead of other prominent Indian YouTubers in terms of net worth. Technical Guruji, known for his tech reviews, was listed in second place with an estimated ₹356 crore, nearly half of Bhat's reported wealth. Bhuvan Bam (BB Ki Vines) was reported to have ₹122 crore, followed by CarryMinati (Ajey Nagar) with ₹131 crore, and Samay Raina with ₹140 crore.
However, this isn't the first time Bhat has addressed speculations about his net worth. In April 2024, after a wealth management startup, Dezerv, estimated his net worth at ₹665 crore, Bhat refuted the claim, stating that the "number is wildly off".
The circulation of these reports highlights the burgeoning content creator economy in India, where digital platforms like YouTube have enabled individuals to build substantial audiences and generate significant revenue. Content creators now earn through diverse channels, including live events, brand collaborations, ad revenue, and merchandise. Tech Informer noted that content creation in India has evolved into a multi-crore industry, with creators building considerable wealth across various niches, proving the power of the digital economy.
Bhat's journey in the digital space began with All India Bakchod (AIB), a comedy company he co-founded in 2012. He served as CEO of AIB until its dissolution in 2019 and has since launched his own YouTube channel, where he shares vlogs, comedy sketches, reaction videos, and video essays. In 2018, Bhat also appeared as a judge on the stand-up comedy competition Comicstaan.
Whether the ₹665 crore figure is accurate or not, the reports and the reactions they have generated underscore the growing financial clout and influence of content creators in India.
