Thamma Box Office Day 2: Khurrana and Mandanna's Film Sees Growth, Collects Rs 24 Crore in Earnings

'Thamma' Box Office Day 2: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna Film Gains Pace, Nears ₹50 Crore Mark

The horror-comedy "Thamma," starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is maintaining a steady performance at the box office following its Diwali 2025 release. After a strong opening, the film is steadily approaching the ₹50 crore mark.

On its second day, Wednesday, October 22, "Thamma" earned an estimated ₹18 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film's opening day collections were around ₹24 crore. With this, the movie's total box office collection on day 2 stood at ₹42 crore.

Despite a slight drop in footfalls on Wednesday, attributed to the post-Diwali workday, "Thamma" has maintained its momentum, fueled by positive word-of-mouth. Morning shows on Day 2 saw approximately 10% occupancy, compared to 16% on Day 1, but footfalls increased as the day progressed. The film managed to keep its day 2 drop to around 25%.

"Thamma's" overall Hindi occupancy on Wednesday was 25.97%. The (2D) version of the movie had significant occupancy in cities like Lucknow (40%), Ahmedabad (34%), and Bengaluru (33%). The film also had a 10.98% Telugu occupancy on Wednesday.

The film is part of Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe and has connections to Varun Dhawan's "Bhediya". The post-credit scene offers a glimpse into the next installment of the franchise, "Shakti Shalini," starring Aneet Padda.

"Thamma" centers on the well-known tale of Vikram and Betaal, bringing Indian folklore to a global audience. The story follows Alok, a journalist from Delhi (played by Ayushmann Khurrana), who encounters Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), a girl without a heartbeat. Alok discovers that he is in a jungle where the tribe has its own rules.

Critics have noted that while "Thamma" has an interesting plot, it doesn't always deliver the same level of entertainment as other films in the Maddock horror-comedy universe. Some find the film's comedy forced and the horror elements lacking. However, the performances of Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna have been praised, with Rashmika's portrayal of a vampire being particularly noted as a standout in her Bollywood career.

The film's performance during the remaining weekdays will be crucial for a strong weekend. Trade analysts suggest that a net collection of less than ₹100 crore over the six-day extended weekend would be a disappointment for "Thamma".
