Suriya's fans eagerly awaiting the release of "Karuppu" may have a date to mark on their calendars. Directed by RJ Balaji, "Karuppu," which features Trisha as the lead actress, has been the subject of much speculation regarding its release date. Initially slated for a Diwali 2025 release, the film's premiere was postponed due to pending OTT deals and extensive CG work.
Recent reports suggest that the producers are in negotiations with Netflix and are considering January 23, 2026, as a potential release date. This date would capitalize on the extended weekend that includes the Republic Day holiday. However, an official confirmation is still awaited.
RJ Balaji has confirmed that the film will be released next year, citing technical reasons for the delay. He also mentioned that Suriya's dance performance in the movie is something to look forward to.
The film's post-production work, including editing, dubbing, and visual effects, is currently in full swing.
There was also a possibility of "Karuppu" aiming for a Pongal 2026 release, potentially leading to a box office clash with Vijay's "Jana Nayagan," which is already locked for Pongal 2026. However, it seems the makers are opting for a late-January release to avoid the crowded Pongal window.
The first single, "God Mode," composed by Sai Abhyankkar, was unveiled on Diwali and has been well-received. The film is bankrolled by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner.
Suriya's previous film, "Kanguva" (2024), received mixed reviews despite its grand visuals and intense battle sequences. With "Karuppu," Suriya carries the responsibility of delivering a film that resonates with audiences and reaffirms his reputation as one of Tamil cinema's most reliable stars.
