Rajat Bedi, known for his roles in Bollywood films, recently shared an emotional experience about meeting Shah Rukh Khan in Canada after a period of career stagnation. In a conversation with Farah Khan on her YouTube vlog, Bedi recounted how the encounter led to a moment of profound self-reflection and ultimately, a career revival.
Bedi, who appeared in approximately 50 films, including about 20 as a lead, revealed that despite his efforts, his career didn't take off as expected. Faced with limited opportunities, he made a life-altering decision to move to Canada with his family. This move, he explained, was a rather sudden choice, as he had no immediate family or friends awaiting him there.
While in Canada, Bedi produced Punjabi films, but he confessed that his heart still yearned for Bollywood. It was during this time that he attended a party where Shah Rukh Khan was present. Bedi recalled that Khan invited him to a private room, and upon seeing him, Bedi broke down. Overwhelmed by emotion, Bedi remembers questioning his presence in Canada, confessing that he couldn't handle being away from the Hindi film industry. "I just couldn't handle it. It hit me — what am I doing in Canada?" Bedi said, as he described the moment. He admitted to actively seeking opportunities to return to Bollywood, expressing his desire to make a comeback to anyone who would listen.
Ironically, Bedi's real life wasn't too different from a character he recently played in Aryan Khan's The Ba*ds of Bollywood, where he portrayed an actor out of work for 15 years due to a sinister contract.
Bedi's return to Mumbai and subsequent career resurgence came unexpectedly when he received a call from Bonnie Jain, a member of Aryan Khan's team, in December 2022. He initially thought it was a prank when he was informed that Aryan Khan wanted to meet him regarding a role in a project he was directing.
Bedi was deeply impressed by Aryan Khan's respectful and kind demeanor. He credits Aryan with not only relaunching his career but also bringing positive changes to his entire family, with his children gaining recognition. Bedi's son even assisted Aryan during the shoot, creating a parallel to Bedi's own early career when he worked alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Ramesh Sippy's Zamaana Deewana. Bedi considers Aryan Khan an "angel" who transformed his life.
Now back in Mumbai, Rajat Bedi is enthusiastic about the second phase of his career and is ready to act again.
