Veteran actor Anupam Kher has announced his collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya for his 549th film project. The announcement was made on November 1, 2025, marking the beginning of a new cinematic journey for the actor.

Kher, who is known for his prolific career in Bollywood, expressed his delight in working with Barjatya, calling him an "icon, an amazing person, and an amazing director". He shared the news on his Instagram, stating that the film's shooting commenced on the same day. To mark the auspicious beginning, Kher presented Barjatya with a sacred shawl from Ayodhya during the first day of the shoot.

In a video shared on social media, Barjatya revealed that this film marks his eighth directorial venture. While details about the film's title, storyline, and cast are currently under wraps, it is known that Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari Wagh are part of the cast. Sources indicate that the film will be a family-based narrative that highlights modern and traditional values. The film is produced by Rajshri Productions in association with Mahaveer Jain Films and Anita Gurnani.

Kher also reflected on his long-standing association with Barjatya and Rajshri Films. He reminisced about his initial days in the industry when Sooraj Barjatya was Mahesh Bhatt’s fifth assistant on Kher’s first film, Saaransh. Kher stated, "It has been a long, happy, amazing, and creatively joyous journey with him". He also acknowledged his integral connection with Rajshri Films and their family over the years. Following tradition, Kher had the privilege of participating in the film's first shot.

Anupam Kher's film Tanvi The Great, where he is both the director and an actor, was released theatrically on July 18, 2025. The film received mixed reviews.

On the same day as the announcement, Kher also extended birthday wishes to Sikandar Kher, his wife Kirron Kher's son, highlighting their close bond.
