The ongoing legal battle surrounding the estate of the late businessman Sunjay Kapur has taken another turn, with Kareena Kapoor Khan seemingly showing her support for Sunjay's sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith. Mandhira has been vocal about her concerns regarding the will and the role of Sunjay's widow, Priya Sachdev, in the matter.
A clip from Mandhira's appearance on the "InControversial Podcast" recently surfaced, in which she voices strong accusations regarding the handling of the estate. Mandhira alleges that Priya is attempting to "erase his bloodline" by prioritizing her children in the will over Sunjay's biological children, Samaira and Kiaan, from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor. She also questions Priya's right to represent the Kapur family and criticizes the absence of blood relatives at a recent Sona Diwali pooja. Furthermore, Mandhira claims that the family is being asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for their own estate, which she finds unacceptable. She refers to the situation as "robbery" and "fraud," vowing to fight for what she believes is her family's rightful inheritance.
Adding fuel to the fire, Kareena Kapoor, Karisma's sister and Sunjay's former sister-in-law, "liked" the Instagram post featuring the clip of Mandhira's statements. This subtle action has been interpreted as a sign of solidarity with Mandhira and Karisma, further highlighting the divisions within the family.
The dispute over Sunjay Kapur's estate, estimated to be worth ₹30,000 crore, has been escalating since his death in June. Sunjay's children, Samaira and Kiaan, have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, alleging that the will presented by Priya is "forged and fabricated" to exclude them from their father's inheritance. They are seeking to prevent Priya from moving or changing any of Sunjay's assets until the case is settled. The court is scheduled to hear their request on November 20, 2025.
Adding to the legal complexities, Mandhira's remarks coincide with doubts raised in the Delhi High Court on October 13 by Senior Counsel Mahesh Jethmalani, who pointed out inconsistencies in the will, including misspelled names and incorrect addresses. Joint Registrar (Judicial) Gagandeep Jindal has issued notices to Priya Kapur and Shradha Suri Marwah, the named executor of the will, directing them to submit their responses within three weeks. The matter is scheduled for a hearing on December 16.
Mandhira has also addressed claims that Sunjay mistreated Karisma during their marriage, which ended in a contentious divorce in 2016. While acknowledging that Karisma was unhappy at times and moved back to Mumbai, she refuted allegations of mistreatment, emphasizing the difficulties of divorce and urging sensitivity from the public. She has also alleged that Priya played a role in ending Sunjay's marriage to Karisma, claiming that Priya would message Sunjay frequently while he was still married.
The Kapur family drama continues to unfold, with legal battles and emotional turmoil playing out in the public eye. Kareena Kapoor's subtle endorsement of Mandhira's accusations has only intensified the spotlight on this high-profile inheritance dispute.
