Anupam Kher is set to grace New York City for the gala premiere of his directorial venture, "Tanvi The Great," at the prestigious New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF). The film, which has already garnered attention with its global debut at the Cannes Film Market and a UK premiere, is slated to screen on June 19th as part of NYIFF's 25th-anniversary celebrations, which will run from June 20-22, 2025.

"Tanvi The Great" tells the inspiring story of a young autistic woman, Tanvi Raina, who embarks on a challenging journey to fulfill her late father's dream of reaching the Siachen Glacier, the world's highest battlefield, and saluting the Indian flag. Overcoming societal barriers and personal limitations, Tanvi's determination and resilience form the crux of this Hindi drama. The film is deeply personal to Kher, as it is inspired by his own niece.

The movie boasts a stellar cast, including Anupam Kher himself, alongside Iain Glen, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, Nasser, and Shubhangi Dutt, who plays the titular role of Tanvi. The film's music is composed by Academy Award winner M.M. Keeravani, with sound design by another Academy Award winner, Resul Pookutty.

Rakesh Kaul, the Vice Chairman of the Indo-American Arts Council, described "Tanvi the Great" as a "powerful and inspiring film that reaffirms the transformative power of storytelling." He lauded Anupam Kher's performance and his ability to command the screen and connect with the audience's hearts. He added that Kher's presence at NYIFF is a gift to the audience and a celebration of artistic excellence.

Anupam Kher expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to showcase "Tanvi The Great" at NYIFF, emphasizing the festival's long-standing commitment to championing cinematic brilliance and stories that reflect society. The premiere will be followed by an in-depth conversation with Anupam Kher and actress Shubhangi, offering the audience a deeper insight into the film's themes and production.

NYIFF, recognized as the oldest Indian film festival in North America, aims to celebrate Indian cinema by showcasing films from various regions of India and the diaspora. This year's festival promises a diverse lineup of narratives, documentaries, and short films, with screenings taking place at the Village East by Angelika in Manhattan.

"Tanvi The Great" is slated for public release on July 18, 2025. Besides "Tanvi The Great," Anupam Kher has several other projects in the pipeline, including "The Bengal Files," and "The India House," scheduled for release later in 2025.
