Vashu Bhagnani, a prominent Bollywood producer, has recently made headlines for his candid reflections on his career, including both successes and regrets. In a conversation with Ronak Kotecha on his YouTube channel Reviewron, Bhagnani openly discussed the box office failure of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM), starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, calling the film his "biggest mistake". He specifically pointed to director Ali Abbas Zafar as the reason for the film's shortcomings, stating that Zafar "didn't understand the title" and failed to grasp the comedic essence that made the original 1998 film a hit.
Bhagnani emphasized that he repeatedly tried to guide Zafar, reminding him that Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was fundamentally a comedy, and that any action elements should complement the humor, not overshadow it. He lamented that the 2024 version, unlike the original starring Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda, received mixed to negative reviews, despite a strong initial opening. Bhagnani expressed a desire to "undo" the film from his filmography, noting that the original was a "very good film," while the second one "wasn't that great". He revealed his intentions to revive the Bade Miyan Chote Miyan title once again, this time with David Dhawan, the director of the original, at the helm. Bhagnani also mentioned that he would enlist Rumi Jaffery to write the story and would even ask Dhawan to produce the film with him if he couldn't direct.
Adding a personal touch to the narrative, Bhagnani also shared about Shah Rukh Khan residing in his building. Khan, along with his family, has temporarily moved into Puja Casa, a luxurious apartment building in Bandra's Pali Hill, while his iconic home, Mannat, undergoes renovation. Interestingly, Puja Casa is co-owned by Vashu Bhagnani, his son Jackky Bhagnani, and his daughter Deepshikha Deshmukh.
Bhagnani had gifted the building to his wife, Puja, in 2009 and named it after her. He recalled, "She had asked for a 1BHK, I gave her a whole building". He had vowed never to sell the building, only rent it out, as a backup during tough times in film production. Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly paying a monthly rent of ₹25 lakh for two duplex apartments in Puja Casa, which provides ample space for his family and staff. The Khan family is expected to reside in Puja Casa for at least two years, as the renovation of Mannat requires special permissions due to its status as a Grade III heritage structure.
The Bhagnani family also resides in Puja Casa, making them neighbors to the Khans. Jackky Bhagnani and his wife, Rakul Preet Singh, also live in the same building. Over the years, Puja Casa has become a popular spot for Bhagnani's Bollywood friends.
