The iconic television show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is making a grand return to the screens, much to the delight of its numerous fans. The reboot, titled Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, will see Smriti Irani reprising her role as the beloved Tulsi Virani. The show is set to premiere on July 3, 2025, coinciding with the original series' 25th anniversary.
Ekta Kapoor, the producer of the original series, is also helming the reboot under her banner, Balaji Telefilms. The show will air on Star Plus at 10:30 PM, the same time slot as its predecessor. Adding to the nostalgia, veteran actor Jeetendra, Ekta Kapoor's father, is expected to make a special cameo in the premiere episode.
Smriti Irani, who is now a politician, had earlier signed a contract to do Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 in 2014 but had to step away to serve in the Indian Parliament as a cabinet minister. Irani revealed that the sets were ready back then, but she had to decline the offer after receiving a call from the Prime Minister's office.
Amar Upadhyay is also confirmed to return as Mihir Virani, reuniting one of television's most iconic couples. Talks are also underway with other popular faces from the past, including Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, Sandeep Baswana, Shilpa Agnihotri, and Rakshanda Khan, to join the reboot. Apara Mehta, known for her role as Savita Virani, has also joined the cast and has already started shooting.
The reboot will introduce a fresh star cast with actors Tanisha Mehta, Rohit Suchanti, Shagun Sharma, and Aman Gandhi in lead roles. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 is planned as a finite series with 150 to 200 episodes. The original show had a run of approximately 1,800 episodes.
The filming was initially scheduled to begin in mid-June but faced a slight delay due to Vastu-related concerns with the set layout. The production team made changes to address these concerns, and filming is now set to commence on July 3, 2025. Smriti Irani confirmed that the delay was due to the makers striving for perfection to honor the show's legacy. According to her, the colour combination on the screen wasn't translating as it should and Ekta Kapoor knows exactly what she wants and she is a perfectionist.
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which originally aired from 2000 to 2008, dominated television ratings for seven consecutive years. The reboot aims to recapture the magic of the original while appealing to a new generation of viewers.
