Mrunal Thakur is set to appear as Rabia in the upcoming comedy film Son of Sardaar 2, a role that sees her embracing the vibrant essence of Punjab. The film, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, is scheduled to release on August 1, 2025, and is a standalone sequel to the 2012 action-comedy Son of Sardaar.
To prepare for her role as Rabia, Mrunal immersed herself in the culture, even learning to play the dhol. She dedicated nearly three months to mastering the instrument, practicing after completing shoots for another film. Mrunal described the experience as "tiring, thrilling, and so special". She shared a video on social media of her dhol practice, expressing gratitude for the experience and excitement for audiences to see more of Rabia and the "crazy family" in the film. She also thanked her teachers for their patience and kindness.

Son of Sardaar 2 stars Ajay Devgn as Jaswinder "Jassi" Singh Randhawa, alongside Ravi Kishan and Sanjay Mishra. The film features Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal, Kubbra Sait, Chunky Panday, Sharat Saxena, Vindu Dara Singh, and the late Mukul Dev. The film is jointly produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, N.R. Pachisia, and Pravin Talreja.
Mrunal's journey to Son of Sardaar 2 began with television roles in series like Mujhse Kuchh Kehti...Yeh Khamoshiyaan and Kumkum Bhagya. She made her Hindi film debut in Love Sonia in 2018. She gained wider recognition for her roles in Super 30 and Batla House in 2019. More recently, she has been praised for her work in Telugu romantic dramas such as Sita Ramam and Hi Nanna.
