Director Anil Sharma has opened up about the challenges he faced while making the Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2. Creating a mass entertainer that blends both real and fictional elements proved to be a daunting task. Sharma emphasized the difficulty of presenting a larger-than-life hero in a way that feels both believable and entertaining.

Sharma explained that while a realistic movie allows you to consult with people on whom the story is based, adding heroism to a film presents a unique challenge. He highlighted the importance of making the hero's actions convincing, which requires careful consideration during both the writing and shooting phases. Sharma also mentioned that Gadar 2 reminded him of the Mahabharata, expressing his confidence that the film wouldn't fail.

Set in 1971, Gadar 2 follows Tara Singh's journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet Singh, from the Pakistani Army. The film is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The director noted that keeping the Gadar franchise relevant with each installment requires reinventing the story to appeal to younger audiences. While the first film showcased the love story of young Tara and Sakeena, the second one shifted its focus to Jeete's romance. Sharma said he simply needs to take their plot further by exploring what happens to the characters after a time gap, set against the backdrop of historical events between India and Pakistan.

The director also addressed the film's "anti-Pakistan" tone, clarifying that the film does not target Pakistan or any community. He pointed out that the film says, "Hindustan Musalmano ka hai," emphasizing that the country belongs to everyone regardless of religion.

Gadar 2 has been a major box office success, earning ₹493.37 crore and becoming one of the biggest hits post-COVID-19. The film features Sunny Deol as Tara Singh, Ameesha Patel as Sakeena, and Utkarsh Sharma as their son Charanjeet Singh. Sharma recalled shedding tears with Sunny Deol when the film became a hit. He also revealed that the team made a deliberate decision to keep ticket rates low to ensure that the film was accessible to the common man.

Looking ahead, Sharma has confirmed that work on Gadar 3 is underway. However, he expressed his desire to release Gadar 3 after a gap of 2-3 years to allow the new generation to watch it.
