Cha Eun Woo, the South Korean singer and actor from the group ASTRO, has been serving his mandatory military duty since enlisting on July 28, 2025. Currently undergoing basic training at the Korea Army Training Center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, he is expected to serve in the military band unit of the Korean Army after completing his initial training. He is scheduled to be discharged on January 27, 2027.
Recently, anecdotes from his military service have surfaced online, drawing considerable attention from fans and netizens. One such story involves Cha Eun Woo being assigned dishwashing duty during his training. According to a post that went viral, fellow soldiers intentionally lined up to give him their trays, hoping to catch a glimpse of the "face genius".
The situation has been met with amusement and disbelief, highlighting the idol's undeniable charm even in the most mundane settings. Some netizens joked about idols training hard only to end up washing dishes. However, many fans defended him, emphasizing that dishwashing is a standard military responsibility and not a cause for ridicule. They also pointed out that his willingness to perform these duties demonstrates humility and responsibility.
Another anecdote shared online described a cook who saw Cha Eun Woo diligently washing dishes, noting that he looked handsome even with a shaved head, making it difficult to maintain eye contact. Furthermore, it was reported that an instructor had to reprimand trainees for staring at Cha Eun Woo, reminding them that he is also just a person.
Prior to this, photos released by the Army Training Center's website on August 13 already captured attention, showing Cha Eun Woo in his military uniform with an upright posture and determined expression. He was also selected as a Company Leader Trainee, a role given to recruits who display leadership and responsibility.
His agency, Fantagio, has asked fans to refrain from sending letters and gifts to his base, citing the military's inability to manage large volumes of mail and the risk of loss or misdelivery. They have instead suggested sending letters or packages to Fantagio HQ.
Despite the challenges of military life, Cha Eun Woo seems to be adjusting well. ASTRO bandmate Yoon San-ha shared that while Eun-woo found it difficult initially, he is adapting. To keep fans engaged during his service, Cha Eun-woo has lined up new projects, including the film "The First Ride" and the Netflix series "The Wonderfuls". He also completed music and solo projects before enlisting.
