Fox cancels 'The Great North' after five seasons: No sixth season for the animated comedy.

After five seasons, the animated comedy series "The Great North" will not be returning to Fox for a sixth season. The network officially confirmed the cancellation in early October 2025, shortly after the conclusion of its fifth season on September 14, 2025.

"The Great North," which premiered on January 3, 2021, followed the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family in the fictional town of Lone Moose. The series revolved around Beef Tobin, a single father, striving to keep his quirky family close, especially his daughter Judy. Judy's aspirations often lead her beyond the family's familiar surroundings. The show was lauded for its focus on family bonds, community, and unique characters.

The series was created by Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, and Minty Lewis, the former two also serving as executive producers and showrunners. The Molyneux sisters also have writing credits on "Bob's Burgers". The show was a 20th Television Animation production, with animation produced by Bento Box Entertainment.

The voice cast featured Nick Offerman as Beef Tobin, Jenny Slate as Judy Tobin, Will Forte, Dulcé Sloan, Paul Rust, Aparna Nancherla, Megan Mullally, and Alanis Morissette. Morissette played a recurring role as an imaginary version of Nancherla's character, appearing to Judy in the Northern Lights.

Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn expressed gratitude for the show's creators, cast, and crew. "We're so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew put into 'The Great North'," Thorn said. "It's difficult to say goodbye, but we're thankful for the five hilarious seasons 'The Great North' brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup".

Hints of the show's possible cancellation emerged earlier in 2025 when Fox announced its 2025-2026 lineup, which did not include "The Great North". Despite the cancellation, all episodes of "The Great North" are available for streaming on Hulu. The series received nominations for an Annie Award in 2025 and a Critics Choice Award in 2022.

Aimee Steinberger, a director for "The Great North," shared her sadness about the cancellation on social media. She noted that the show was a rare project that she genuinely loved and appreciated the talented crew she worked with.

While "The Great North" will not return, Fox remains committed to animation. The network has renewed "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," and "Bob's Burgers" for multiple seasons. "American Dad" is also set to return, with new episodes of "Grimsburg" and "Krapopolis" also in production.
