Partha Pratim Goswami, a bandmate of the late Zubeen Garg, has strongly criticized the singer's manager, Siddharth Sharma, and fellow band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, alleging negligence and carelessness in the events leading up to Garg's death in Singapore on September 19. Garg, a renowned Bollywood and Assamese singer, died while swimming near an island during a yacht outing.
Goswami's accusations center around the fact that Sharma and Shekhar Jyoti Goswami allegedly allowed Garg, who was known to be a seizure patient, to swim in the sea after he had been drinking and partying all night without sleep. "The greatest negligence and carelessness were on the part of Siddharth (Zubeen Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma) and Shekhar (bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami). You two, who stay close to Zubeen like shadows, brought someone who hadn't slept and had been drinking and partying all night to swim in the sea, fully aware that Zubeen is a seizure patient. How could you do that?" Partha Pratim Goswami stated. He further added, "You didn't let him sleep and insisted on taking him to the sea just because you wanted to have fun. I will never forgive them for this reckless mistake for as long as I live".
The circumstances surrounding Garg's death are under intense scrutiny, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case. Four individuals, including Sharma, event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, have been arrested and now face murder charges.
Adding another layer to the investigation, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has alleged that Sharma and Mahanta may have poisoned Zubeen Garg and conspired to make his death appear accidental. Goswami claimed that Sharma acted suspiciously in the hours before Garg's death, including allegedly taking control of the yacht and providing liquor while instructing others not to arrange drinks. He also stated that when Garg began struggling in the water, Sharma allegedly dismissed his gasping and frothing as mere "acid reflux" and told others not to worry. Goswami emphasized that Garg was a strong swimmer, making accidental drowning unlikely.
According to reports, during Garg's final moments, Sharma was heard shouting, “Jabo de, jabo de” (let him go, let him go)—a statement that has now become central to the investigation.
The SIT has also questioned actress Vaishali Medhi and singer Meghna Borpuzari, both prominent figures in Assam's entertainment industry. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining documentary records, financial transactions, and witness statements. The Assam government has also established a judicial commission to investigate the case.
