Rajat Bedi on Amitabh-Rajesh rivalry: Father's Bollywood dreams crushed, leading to alcoholism and financial ruin.

Rajat Bedi, known for his role in Netflix's "The Ba***ds of Bollywood," recently revealed how the professional rivalry between Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna deeply impacted his father, the late filmmaker Narendra Bedi. In a recent interview, Rajat shared that this rivalry led to financial losses and alcoholism for his father.

Narendra Bedi was a prominent director and producer, having worked with both Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan in films such as "Benaam" and "Adalat". He also directed several films starring Rajesh Khanna, including "Jawani Diwani" and "Sanam Teri Kasam".

Rajat recounted a specific instance where his father faced significant challenges due to Rajesh Khanna's behavior. According to Rajat, Narendra Bedi had started two or three films with Rajesh Khanna. However, Rajesh Khanna reportedly felt resentful that Narendra Bedi was also working with Amitabh Bachchan. This reportedly led to Rajesh Khanna not showing up to the sets for weeks, causing Narendra Bedi to shut down the projects and suffer substantial financial losses. Rajat speculated that ego clashes or scheduling issues among the heroes of that era might have contributed to the situation.

Rajat also revealed that his father and Rajesh Khanna were close friends and often spent nights drinking together. He recalled a constant supply of alcohol at their home and described his father's unhealthy lifestyle, which included smoking and chewing Pan Parag. Rajat believes that his father's alcoholism significantly affected his career. He mentioned that during the shooting of "Sanam Teri Kasam," his father would sometimes arrive on set intoxicated, which upset Kamal Haasan.

In an emotional account, Rajat shared the circumstances surrounding his father's death. He recounted coming home from school and witnessing his father collapse in front of him. Rajat explained that his father had become an alcoholic and was battling depression. He attributed his father's downfall to the financial liabilities he was managing and the career setbacks he experienced.

The rivalry between Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan was well-known in the 1960s and 1970s. Rajesh Khanna initially enjoyed immense stardom, but Amitabh Bachchan's emergence with films like "Zanjeer" challenged Khanna's position.

Rajat Bedi's candid revelations shed light on the personal and professional struggles his father faced due to the intense competition within the film industry and the impact of personal relationships on his career.
