Udit Narayan's Potential Addition: Will He Become Indian Idol 16's Fourth Judge?

The buzz around Indian Idol 16 is reaching a fever pitch as the premiere date of October 18th approaches. While the judging panel has been confirmed to include returning favorites Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah, a new report indicates that legendary singer Udit Narayan may join them as the fourth judge.

According to Zoom/Telly Talk India, Udit Narayan is in talks with the producers to potentially take a seat on the judging panel. A source close to the development revealed, "If all goes well, Udit ji will be seen on the judges' chair in Indian Idol 16, and it's going to be massive news for 90s music fans".

Udit Narayan's possible presence resonates strongly with the season's theme, "Yaadon Ki Playlist". The source added, "With this year's theme being 'Yaadon Ki Playlist', is Udit Narayan coming as the fourth judge to plug in the theme of nostalgia?". Narayan is known for his iconic Bollywood tracks, including "Jaadu Teri Nazar," "Pehla Nasha," and "Ek Dilruba Hai".

Notably, Udit Narayan has previously appeared on Indian Idol. He served as a judge on Indian Idol Season 3 in 2007. He has also made guest appearances and participated in special segments in subsequent seasons, including a special episode dedicated to his music on Indian Idol 12 and a performance with contestant Chaitanya during Indian Idol 15.

Indian Idol 16 is set to replace Super Dancer Chapter 5 on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV. The show aims to blend emerging talent with classic melodies, promising a nostalgic journey that celebrates music and memories. The premiere episode will air on October 18 at 8:00 PM.

The buzz surrounding Indian Idol 16 includes a recent tribute to late Assamese musician Zubeen Garg. Shreya Ghoshal and contestant Satyendra Yein performed Garg's song "Mayabini". Judge Vishal Dadlani called Zubeen Garg "one of the greatest of all time".

Whether Udit Narayan will officially join Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah as the fourth judge remains to be seen. However, the possibility has generated excitement among fans, especially those who grew up listening to his music in the 90s. If he signs on, it would mark his return to a judging role in the non-fiction television space after a long time.
