Varinder Singh Ghuman, a well-known Punjabi actor and bodybuilder, has died at the age of 42 after suffering a heart attack. The news has shocked the Punjabi entertainment and bodybuilding communities.
Ghuman passed away in Amritsar, Punjab. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital for a minor surgery related to a bicep injury. The procedure was considered routine, and he was expected to be discharged soon. However, he reportedly suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during the treatment. Despite doctors' best efforts, they were unable to revive him.
Born in Punjab, Ghuman rose to prominence as a bodybuilder, earning the title of Mr. India in 2009 and placing second in Mr. Asia. He was widely recognized as the first vegetarian professional bodybuilder in India. His success in bodybuilding led to opportunities to represent Arnold Schwarzenegger's products. Ghuman met Schwarzenegger at a competition in Spain, where Schwarzenegger praised his physique and talent.
Ghuman transitioned to acting, making his Punjabi film debut in 2012 with "Kabaddi Once Again". He later appeared in Bollywood films such as "Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans" (2014) and "Marjaavaan" (2019). Most recently, Ghuman appeared in "Tiger 3," where he played a Pakistani prison guard named Shakeel alongside Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The film, part of Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe, was released in November 2023.
Based in Jalandhar, Ghuman owned a gym and advocated for health and vegan fitness. Harminder Dullowal, a bodybuilder from Jalandhar, mentioned that Ghuman had a muscle rupture in his chest area and went to Amritsar for treatment.
