Suriya's Karuppu Movie: First Song Release Date Revealed Alongside New Poster Unveiling

The first single from Suriya's highly anticipated film, Karuppu, is set to release on October 20, coinciding with Diwali. Dream Warrior Pictures, the production house behind the film, made the announcement, inviting fans to "Get ready for a Deepavali filled with mass and music".

Karuppu is directed by RJ Balaji, who also plays the antagonist in the film. The film stars Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, marking their reunion on screen after nearly two decades. The movie also features Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy, and Yogi Babu in supporting roles.

The film is produced by S. R. Prabhu and S. R. Prakash Babu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner. Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music for the film, with cinematography by G. K. Vishnu and editing by R. Kalaivanan.

The first look poster of Karuppu, released earlier, featured a collection of sickles and spears, leading to speculation about the film being a Hindu mythological or fantasy drama. The title, Karuppu (Black), was announced in June 2025.

The teaser for Karuppu was released on Suriya's birthday and showcased the actor in dual avatars. One version of Suriya is a lawyer named Saravanan, while the other appears to be a more violent character wielding a machete. The teaser also included a reference to a famous scene from Suriya's earlier film, Ghajini.

While the release date of the film is yet to be officially announced, it was initially planned for a Diwali release but was postponed due to pending CGI work. Karuppu is now expected to release in early 2026.

Suriya was last seen in the romantic action drama Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. RJ Balaji, the director of Karuppu, had initially narrated the script to Vijay for his 69th film, but it did not progress.

The makers have indicated that Karuppu warrants a festival release. With the first single releasing for Diwali, fans can anticipate an energetic performance from Suriya, set to Sai Abhyankkar's music. The film is currently in its final stages of shooting.
