Rajat Bedi on 'Koi Mil Gaya' pain: Losing Hrithik Roshan scene still stings, says he was better.

Rajat Bedi, known for his role in the sci-fi blockbuster "Koi… Mil Gaya," has recently opened up about a particular scene with Hrithik Roshan that continues to resonate with him. In a recent interview, Bedi reflected on the missed opportunity to truly shine in the film, admitting that his lack of maturity as an actor at the time prevented him from delivering his best performance.

"I wasn't a mature actor back then, even when I was doing 'Koi Mil Gaya'," Bedi confessed in an interview with News18 Showsha. He described a specific scene between his character and Hrithik Roshan's, where director Rakesh Roshan had envisioned Bedi's performance to be so strong that his lines would overpower Roshan's. "There was this one scene that Rakesh ji wanted me to do, it was my scene...where my lines could've overpowered his," Bedi recalled.

Despite Rakesh Roshan's guidance and multiple takes, Bedi felt he didn't quite capture the essence of what the director wanted. "Rakesh ji later said, 'Rajat, tujhe pata hai woh scene tera tha (Rajat, you know, that scene was yours)? You had to eat Duggu up in that scene! But you didn't do that,'" Bedi recounted. This feedback deeply affected Bedi, who admitted he was "heartbroken" because he "didn't have the maturity to understand it then".

"Koi... Mil Gaya," a landmark film in Bollywood's sci-fi genre, starred Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in leading roles. Bedi played a supporting role as the suave antagonist. Despite the film's success, Bedi has previously spoken about his disappointment in not getting the expected career boost and feeling sidelined during the film's promotions. He clarified that there was no fallout with director Rakesh Roshan. A significant portion of his scenes were cut from the final version of the movie.

Bedi later moved to Canada and ventured into real estate. He revealed that he faced personal and professional betrayals in Canada, which forced him to return to India. He described how business partners "did the numbers" on him, leading to financial fallout and self-reinvention.

Now, Bedi is back on screen with a role in Aryan Khan's directorial debut, "The Ba***ds of Bollywood," a project he calls a "transformative experience". He plays a forgotten actor trying to rebuild his life after 15 years without work, a role he says felt "close to home".

Reflecting on his journey, Bedi believes the struggles and setbacks have ultimately made him a better actor. "My journey has helped me a lot," Bedi stated. "That's also the reason why I can emote much better today. I'm more mature as an actor now". He also credited co-star Raghav Juyal for reigniting his creative spark.

Bedi's return to the screen marks a new chapter in his career, with "The Ba***ds of Bollywood" offering him an opportunity to showcase his evolved skills and depth as an actor.
