Soni married Indian director and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in 1986, and they have two daughters, Alia and Shaheen Bhatt. Despite facing challenges in her career after marriage, Soni made a strong comeback, including sharing screen space with Alia in the spy thriller "Raazi" (2018), where she played Alia's on-screen mother.
