Parmeet Sethi: YouTube Pays Significantly More Than Traditional Media, Demanding a Thick Skin

Parmeet Sethi, known for his roles in Bollywood and television, has recently shared his insights on the evolving landscape of entertainment and content creation, highlighting the financial incentives and personal costs associated with platforms like YouTube. In a recent interview, Sethi revealed that creating content for YouTube can be significantly more lucrative than traditional avenues like films and television, potentially earning creators three times more.

Sethi, along with his wife Archana Puran Singh, runs a family vlog channel called "AAAP Ka Parivaar," which has garnered a substantial following of nearly one million subscribers. This venture has provided them with firsthand experience of the platform's potential. Sethi explained that if they were to dedicate themselves to vlogging full-time, the income generated could surpass their combined earnings from film and television projects. Several other Indian personalities, such as Farah Khan and Bharti Singh, have also publicly spoken about the profitability of vlogging. Khan has even stated that her vlog is more lucrative and less stressful than filmmaking.

Despite the financial allure, Sethi also cautioned about the emotional and personal sacrifices that come with consistently sharing one's life online. He emphasized that vlogging requires a certain level of "shamelessness, carelessness, and fearlessness," as creators open themselves up to public scrutiny and potential trolling. The constant exposure and vulnerability to negative feedback can take an emotional toll.

Sethi also commented on the changing dynamics within the entertainment industry, particularly the rise of OTT platforms. He expressed his opinion that some OTT platforms are lowering their standards in an attempt to replace traditional television, a trend he finds concerning. He acknowledged that there are exceptions, but overall, he is not pleased with this shift.

While acknowledging the risks of constant exposure and potential trolling, Sethi views YouTube as a lifelong income source, akin to life insurance. He noted that YouTube provides complete freedom of expression, allowing creators to be their authentic selves.
