Kannada actress Bhoomi Shetty is set to star in the lead role of "Mahakali," a film created by Prasanth Varma and directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru. The film is part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), expanding the director's vision of bringing mythical superheroes to the screen.

Varma unveiled the first-look poster of Shetty as Mahakali on Thursday, October 30, 2025, showcasing the actress in a fierce goddess avatar. The poster features Shetty in vivid red and gold attire, adorned with traditional jewelry and intense eyes, generating significant buzz for its powerful imagery. The film is reportedly 50% complete and is backed by RKD Studios.

Bhoomi Shetty's journey to this significant role has been marked by diverse experiences in television and film. Born on February 19, 1998, in Kundapura, Karnataka, she initially pursued a degree in mechanical engineering. However, her passion for performance led her to the entertainment industry. She began her acting career with the Kannada television series "Kinnari," where she played the lead role of Mani. In 2018, she starred in the Telugu television series "Ninne Pelladatha" as Mrudula. Shetty also participated in Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7, finishing as the 4th runner-up. More recently, she appeared in the Telugu film "Kingdom".

"Mahakali" marks a significant milestone in Shetty's career, offering her the opportunity to portray a powerful and iconic character. The film's narrative is set against the backdrop of Bengal, a region deeply connected to the mythical figure of Kali. The filmmakers are aiming for authenticity by casting a dark-skinned actress to embody the goddess's traditional image.

Prasanth Varma, known for his 2024 blockbuster "Hanu-Man," is also gearing up for his next project, "Jai Hanuman," starring Rishab Shetty. Akshaye Khanna will play a pivotal role as Asuraguru Shukracharya in "Mahakali". Pooja Kolluru, known for directing the Telugu political satire "Martin Luther King" (2023), is directing the film.
