Shalini Passi, known for her appearance on "Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives," recently revealed her efforts to refine her English-speaking skills before joining the show. In a recent interview, Passi shared that she undertook English lessons and even studied slang for six months to "become cool" before filming.
Passi confessed to feeling self-conscious about her appearance and speech before facing the camera. She had been learning English for eight years to overcome a stammer and difficulty pronouncing certain words. "Before signing the series and starting the shoot, I went through a phase where I wanted to be 'cool'," Passi revealed. She felt pressure to modernize her image, fearing she would appear outdated on screen. "I was very conscious and told myself, 'Now that I'm going to face the camera, I can't look like I'm from the Victorian era.' Honestly, I even tried learning slang and speaking in a cool manner like everyone else," she explained.
Despite her efforts, Passi's friends initially doubted her ability to fit in with the glamorous cast. "When I signed the series, many of my friends called me and said, 'Don't do it, Shalini. You're too simple, you're not cut out for it,'" she recalled. However, she added with a laugh that their opinions have since changed.
Passi also opened up about deeper insecurities regarding her physical appearance. She admitted to being self-conscious about her nose and teeth, revealing that she avoided smiling for a long time because she thought it made her nose look bigger. She also felt her teeth appeared too yellow due to her fair complexion. Passi even considered plastic surgery to alter her appearance. About 20 years ago, she consulted a plastic surgeon in New York who immediately understood her concerns.
Shalini Passi's journey reflects a broader narrative of self-acceptance and challenging societal beauty standards. Despite initial insecurities and pressures to conform, she has embraced her unique qualities and become a style icon for many viewers. Her elegance, honesty, and ability to respectfully disagree have resonated with audiences, making her a standout personality.
Passi's educational background includes attending Modern School Barakhamba Road and Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Although she was interested in architecture, she did not pursue it formally due to her math skills. Nevertheless, her passion for art and design is evident in her extensive art collection and aesthetic sensibilities. Born in 1976, Shalini Passi has resided in New Delhi since childhood.
