In a candid revelation on the talk show Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, Khan explained that her decision to explore the digital platform was driven by both a lull in directing opportunities and the practical need to fund her children's education.
With no films in the pipeline after her last directorial venture, 2014's Happy New Year, Khan decided to explore YouTube. She openly discussed the financial pressures of raising three children, particularly the significant expenses associated with sending them to college. "I have three kids who will go to college soon, and that's bloody expensive!" she exclaimed, highlighting the motivation behind her shift to creating content on YouTube.
Khan's YouTube channel features celebrity cooking videos made in collaboration with her cook, Dileep. This format has resonated well with audiences, earning her channel significant popularity. As of November 2025, her channel has garnered almost 3 million subscribers and a strong following of 4.5 million on Instagram.
Khan emphasized that her work is driven by personal fulfillment. She stated that she finds happiness in her work and plans to continue working well into her eighties, noting that her profession does not rely on physical appearance. "Work actually gives me a lot of pleasure. Also, I feel that for me, I can work till I'm 80 because my work doesn't depend on either my looks or, clearly, not my body, ever," she remarked.
Married to filmmaker Shirish Kunder, Khan often speaks about how motherhood has altered her perspective. While still working in films and television, she appreciates that YouTube offers her creative flexibility and the comfort of working from home. "Now I can create something fun sitting in my living room while my kids do their homework," she shared.
