Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar-winning actor, has revealed that he is currently without a permanent home, living in hotels and Airbnbs as he seeks work. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the 66-year-old actor explained, "I'm living in hotels, I'm living in Airbnbs, I'm going where the work is. I literally have no home, that's what I'm attempting to explain".
Spacey's current living situation is a consequence of the fallout from numerous sexual misconduct allegations that surfaced beginning in 2017. While he was cleared of sexual assault charges in New York in 2022 and in the UK in 2023, the accusations have had a devastating impact on his career and finances.
Speaking about his financial situation, Spacey told The Telegraph that it was "not great" and that "the costs over these last seven years have been astronomical" with "very little coming in and everything going out". He also revealed that he has not had to file for bankruptcy. Spacey previously disclosed in a 2024 interview with Piers Morgan that his Baltimore home had been foreclosed upon due to his financial difficulties and that he was millions of dollars in debt.
Despite the challenges, Spacey has been attempting a comeback into public life. Last week, he performed a one-night-only cabaret-style show titled "Songs & Stories" at a luxury resort in Cyprus. The show featured Spacey backed by a jazz band, singing and sharing anecdotes from his time in Hollywood. Promotional material for the event compared his performance to the elegance of Frank Sinatra and the wit of Dean Martin, touting it as "the return of an entertainer in the grandest sense of the word".
Spacey's career decline began in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp accused him of sexual misconduct, alleging an incident that occurred in 1986 when Rapp was 14 years old. Numerous other accusations followed, leading to Spacey's removal from the Netflix series "House of Cards" and other projects. He was later ordered to pay over $30 million to the production company behind "House of Cards" for losses incurred due to his firing.
Spacey's legal battles culminated in his acquittal on sexual assault charges in London in July 2023, following a four-week trial. He has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing and maintained his innocence throughout.
In reflecting on his current situation, Spacey expressed a sense of returning to his roots, stating, "In weird ways, I feel I'm back to where I first started, which is I just went where the work was". He conveyed hope that as his situation improves, he will eventually be able to settle down again.
