Vivek Oberoi: Earning My First Crore Young, It Wasn't Cash, a Different Kind of Reward

Vivek Oberoi recently shared insights into his early financial experiences, revealing that he earned his first crore rupees at the age of 16 or 17. This milestone, surprisingly, wasn't achieved through his acting career but through trading and deal-making.

In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Oberoi explained that the money wasn't in cash but rather in stock value. He emphasized the importance of saving and building his portfolio gradually. Oberoi also mentioned feeling financially independent as early as 15, drawing inspiration from his family's history. His family had owned significant properties before the Partition, which forced them to start over. This experience instilled in him the need to create his own wealth.

Oberoi's interest in the stock market and business operations grew during his college years. At 19, he launched his first business, successfully raising ₹12 crore. He highlighted his approach of prioritizing investors' success, ensuring everyone involved benefited from the venture.

Beyond acting, Oberoi has established himself as an entrepreneur with investments in various sectors. These include a FinTech firm focused on modern financial solutions and an EdTech platform aimed at revolutionizing education.

Addressing speculation about his net worth, often reported to be around ₹1200 crore, Oberoi responded philosophically. He stated that he has "enough money to take care of many generations" and that his family's future is secure. He also added that possessing the assets to fulfill one's dreams is more important than chasing a specific net worth figure.

Oberoi's entrepreneurial ventures extend to other areas, including luxury real estate, lab-grown diamonds, and a premium gin brand. He holds a 21% stake in the gin brand, which is valued at approximately 30 million pounds (₹310 crore). His share is worth about ₹71 crore.

Oberoi has also channeled nearly $40 million raised from the US and UK into charitable initiatives in India over the past decade. These initiatives focus on community development projects and education drives.
