Following her debut in the upcoming SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, Ice Spice is setting her sights on portraying other iconic animated characters. In a recent interview with Time Magazine, the 25-year-old rapper expressed her desire to star in Hello Kitty and Betty Boop movies.
Ice Spice, whose real name is Isis Gaston, sees voice acting as a natural extension of her music career. She told Time Magazine that "Making music is like low-key voice acting...I feel like the two are similar". Her role in the new SpongeBob film marks her first major foray into voice acting, after having previously appeared in Spike Lee's Highest 2 Lowest.
In The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, Ice Spice voices a character named Isis Gaston, who works as a ticket taker at an amusement park in Bikini Bottom. The character sports the rapper's signature ginger hair. Ice Spice also wrote an original song for the movie's soundtrack titled "Big Guy". She created the song in the studio with Riot and Lil Yachty, incorporating SpongeBob vocabulary into the track. One of Ice Spice's early hits, "Bikini Bottom," was inspired by the SpongeBob universe, making her involvement with the franchise a full-circle moment.
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is set to premiere on December 19. In the meantime, Ice Spice fans can anticipate her potential future roles as Hello Kitty or Betty Boop.
