Mumbai, November 24, 2025 - The Indian film industry and millions of fans worldwide are mourning the loss of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away today at the age of 89. The Bollywood legend, known for his captivating performances and charismatic presence, breathed his last in Mumbai, leaving behind a legacy spanning six decades and over 300 films.

Dharmendra, born Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol on December 8, 1935, in Nasrali, Punjab, had a remarkable career that began in 1960 with "Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere". He rose to prominence in the mid-1960s with films like "Ayee Milan Ki Bela", "Phool Aur Patthar" and "Aaye Din Bahar Ke", eventually earning the moniker "He-Man" for his action roles. His filmography includes iconic movies such as "Sholay," in which he starred alongside his wife, Hema Malini.

The actor's death was attributed to heart complications. He had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on October 31 after complaining of breathlessness. According to reports, he was put on life support shortly after returning home from the hospital.

The news of Dharmendra's passing has sent shockwaves through the film fraternity. Tributes have been pouring in from actors, directors, and producers, acknowledging his immense contribution to Indian cinema. Karan Johar posted a heartfelt message, calling it "an end of an era".

Beyond his acting career, Dharmendra also ventured into politics, serving as a Member of Parliament for Bikaner from 2004 to 2009. In 2012, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, for his contributions to Indian cinema.
