Mumbai, November 27, 2025 – A prayer meet, named "Celebration of Life," was held today in Mumbai to honor the life and legacy of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. The event, organized by the Deol family, took place at Taj Lands End in Bandra, offering a space for family, friends, industry members, and fans to pay their final respects to the legendary star.
The prayer meet, which ran from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, was a poignant tribute to Dharmendra's illustrious career and personal life. An invitation poster circulating on social media featured a childhood photo of Dharmendra, with the words "Celebration of Life," and his birth and death years.
Earlier in the day, preparations were underway at the Taj Lands End to ensure a smooth and dignified gathering. Hotel staff coordinated with event planners to manage seating, floral decorations, and security arrangements.
Among the attendees was Hema Malini, Dharmendra's wife, who shared a touching note on social media, expressing her deep affection and remembering special moments with the actor.
Numerous Bollywood celebrities were present to offer their condolences and pay tribute to the "He-Man of Bollywood," who had a career spanning over six decades. Those who attended the private funeral included Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. Several other celebrities, including Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and others, had visited the Deol residence in Juhu in the days following Dharmendra's death to express their condolences.
Dharmendra, whose real name was Dharm Singh Deol, was known for his versatility and was fondly regarded as one of Indian cinema's most beloved actors. From his "angry young man" roles in the 70s to becoming the "forever young man," he left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions.
According to reports, singer Sonu Nigam was expected to perform some of Dharmendra's popular songs at the service, adding a musical tribute to the evening.
Dharmendra's death followed a period of ill health, including a recent admission to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Although he was briefly discharged, reports indicated he had been placed on a ventilator due to breathing difficulties.
The family had previously expressed their displeasure regarding a leaked video that surfaced online after Dharmendra's hospitalization. The video, which showed the actor in a vulnerable state, was condemned by many in the industry and public, who viewed it as a breach of privacy and trust.
Despite his passing, Dharmendra's work will continue to live on. His final film, Ikkis, is slated for release in December 2025. The film, which also stars Agastya Nanda, will feature Dharmendra as Brigadier Khetarpal, the father of a young war hero.
