Mumbai, November 28, 2025 – A prayer meet was held on Thursday, November 27th, at Taj Lands End in Bandra, Mumbai, to honor the life of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24th at the age of 89. The event, organized by the Deol family, was a "Celebration of Life", drawing in family, friends, and numerous members of the film fraternity who came to pay their respects to the legendary star. The prayer meet took place from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, Dharmendra's sons, were present to greet the guests with folded hands, their emotions visible as they stood together to receive condolences. Both were dressed in simple white attire, and a large photograph of Dharmendra, adorned with flowers, served as a poignant backdrop. Other members of the Deol family, including Dharmendra's grandson Karan Deol and brother Abhay Deol, were also present at the venue.
The prayer meet saw a host of Bollywood celebrities arriving to offer their final respects. Among those spotted were Salman Khan, arriving with tight security, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Rekha, Sidharth Malhotra, Malaika Arora with her son Arhaan Khan and sister Amrita Arora, and Seema Sajdeh. Shah Rukh Khan's family was also present, underscoring the deep respect the industry held for the late actor.
Adding a musical tribute to the evening, singer Sonu Nigam performed some of Dharmendra's most iconic songs, celebrating his life through the melodies that defined his illustrious career. Veteran director Ramesh Sippy, director of the iconic film Sholay, shared an emotional tribute, reflecting on the immense loss.
Dharmendra, who would have turned 90 on December 8, is survived by his wives Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, and his children including Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and daughter Esha Deol. Esha Deol's ex-husband, Bharat Takhtani, was also seen visiting Hema Malini's residence to offer his condolences.
Dharmendra's contribution to Indian cinema spans several decades, with memorable roles in films like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Yaadon Ki Baaraat. Despite his age and health concerns, he remained active in the industry, with his film Ekkis, also starring Agastya Nanda, awaiting release. The Deol family chose to have a private cremation for the actor, foregoing state honors. The prayer meet served as a public moment for the film fraternity and fans to commemorate his extraordinary life and legacy.
