In a surprising turn of events for the highly anticipated sequel, Jailer 2, it appears that Vijay Sethupathi, not Nandamuri Balakrishna, will be making a special cameo alongside Superstar Rajinikanth. While Nandamuri Balakrishna was initially rumored and even confirmed to be part of the cast for a guest appearance, recent reports indicate a change in plans.

Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, is already shaping up to be a star-studded affair. Rajinikanth will reprise his role as Muthuvel Pandian, and the film will also feature Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa. S.J. Suryah has also joined the cast in a pivotal role. Shiva Rajkumar will reprise his cameo from the first film.

The inclusion of Vijay Sethupathi marks a reunion for him and Rajinikanth, who previously shared screen space in the 2019 action drama Petta, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. This collaboration has generated excitement among fans, eager to see the two actors together again. Reportedly, Vijay Sethupathi has already joined the sets in Goa for the shooting schedule.

While specifics about Vijay Sethupathi's role remain under wraps, sources suggest it will be a "powerful special cameo". The actor had previously expressed his desire to work with director Nelson Dilipkumar, making this collaboration a fulfillment of that wish.

Several other prominent actors are expected to make appearances in Jailer 2. Mithun Chakraborty is confirmed to be joining the cast, reuniting with Rajinikanth after 30 years. There are also reports of Mohanlal reprising his cameo role from Jailer. Vidya Balan is also said to have a prominent character in the film as Mithun Chakraborty's elder daughter.

Jailer 2 is currently in production, with filming taking place in various locations, including Chennai, Kerala, Goa and Mysuru. The film is slated for a grand theatrical release in August 2026. Adding to the anticipation, the first official teaser of Jailer 2 is scheduled to be unveiled on Rajinikanth's birthday, December 12, 2025.
