Widow of Karachi Officer Slams Dhurandhar Trailer
The upcoming Indian action-thriller Dhurandhar is facing criticism from Naureen Aslam, the widow of the late Karachi police officer Chaudhary Aslam. She has voiced strong objections to the portrayal of her husband in the film and has warned that she will pursue legal action if the film misrepresents or maligns his image.
In Dhurandhar, veteran actor Sanjay Dutt portrays Chaudhary Aslam, who is described as a tough police officer from Lyari who fought against gangsters and terrorists. Naureen Aslam has condemned a specific line from the trailer that refers to her late husband as a "child of the devil and a jinn," calling it disrespectful to her husband and his mother. "We are Muslims, and such words are disrespectful to not only Aslam but his mother as well, who was a simple, honest woman," she stated.
Naureen Aslam has also expressed concerns that filmmakers often target Pakistani figures to malign the country. She emphasized that her husband's legacy was one of courage, integrity, and service. She stated that her husband was a brave and courageous police officer whose name was feared by criminals and terrorists. She also disputed some characterizations in the film, suggesting that even major criminals had been exaggerated into "terrorist" status when they were primarily accused of extortion, kidnapping, or criminality.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, is scheduled for theatrical release on December 5. The film has already stirred controversy, with the family of late Major Mohit Sharma also approaching the Delhi High Court, arguing that the trailer highlights real-life events, including counter-terrorism operations from Sharma's life, without the family's permission, thus violating his posthumous privacy. The film is expected to be released on OTT platforms after its theatrical release.
