Farhan Akhtar is showering praise on his latest project, "120 Bahadur," a war film based on the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Akhtar not only stars in the film as Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, but also co-produced it under his Excel Entertainment banner.
Akhtar's portrayal of Major Shaitan Singh, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his exceptional bravery, has been drawing considerable attention. The film depicts the courage and sacrifice of the 120 soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, who valiantly fought against a much larger Chinese force.
"120 Bahadur" narrates the historical event where these 120 Indian soldiers held off over 2000 Chinese troops in Ladakh's Rezang La pass despite the harsh conditions. The soldiers, mostly Ahirs, defended their post against a reported three-thousand-strong Chinese army. Despite being severely outnumbered, they stood their ground and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy.
The film premiered in theaters on November 21, 2025, and has garnered a domestic collection of ₹15.4 crore in its second week.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has declared "120 Bahadur" tax-free in Delhi. Gupta stated that this decision was made as "a special mark of respect to the valiant soldiers" and to honor their "extraordinary courage, leadership, and sacrifice". Akhtar expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister.
The film has received positive feedback from various personalities. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav commended the film's message and patriotic spirit. Akhtar responded, thanking Yadav for acknowledging the team's efforts. Veteran actor Shabana Azmi also praised Akhtar's performance, noting his transformation from his role in "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara". Hrithik Roshan called the film "exquisitely made" and lauded its visuals, performances, and direction.
Akhtar also praised Shreya Ghoshal for her song in the film, noting that it was written from the point of view of Mother India to the fallen soldier.
"120 Bahadur" is directed by Razneesh Ghai and also stars Raashii Khanna, Ankit Siwach, Vivan Bhatena, Eijaz Khan, and Ajinkya Deo. Despite some mixed reviews, the film has been recognized for highlighting a significant chapter in India's military history. However, the film also faced some protests regarding its title by the Ahir community. The Delhi High Court dismissed a PIL that claimed the film distorts historical facts.
