Suniel Shetty Lauds Jemimah Rodrigues' Loyalty to Smriti Mandhana During Wedding Mishap, Prioritizing Friendship Over League.

Actor Suniel Shetty has lauded cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues for prioritizing her friendship with Smriti Mandhana during a challenging time. Rodrigues chose to skip the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia to be with Mandhana after her wedding was postponed.

Mandhana's wedding with music composer-filmmaker Palash Muchhal, initially scheduled for November 23, 2025, was called off due to her father's sudden illness. He was hospitalized with symptoms suggestive of a heart attack. Following this, Muchhal was also reportedly hospitalized. The postponement and the lack of official statements from Mandhana and Muchhal led to speculation and rumors on social media. Some reports even suggested that Mandhana called off the wedding due to Muchhal's alleged infidelity. Mandhana has also removed all of her pre-wedding celebration posts from Instagram.

In light of these events, Rodrigues, who was representing Brisbane Heat in the WBBL, decided to return to India to support her friend. Brisbane Heat confirmed her release, respecting her decision to prioritize her teammate. Heat CEO Terry Svenson acknowledged the difficult situation for the team but emphasized the importance of Rodrigues' personal circumstances.

Suniel Shetty acknowledged Rodrigues' gesture on social media, sharing a newspaper clipping about the situation. He wrote that Rodrigues' decision to step away from her commitments demonstrated "quiet solidarity". He further added that true friendship doesn't require grand gestures, and standing by someone during difficult times is enough. He called Rodrigues' act simple, straightforward, and genuine. "Bumped into this article first thing in the morning and my heart felt full. Jemimah leaving the WBBL to be by Smriti's side. No big statements, just quiet solidarity. This is what real teammates do. Simple. Straight. Genuine," Shetty posted.

Rodrigues had initially traveled to India from Australia, where she was playing for the Brisbane Heat, for Mandhana's wedding. She was supposed to return to Australia after the ceremony. However, following the postponement, she chose to remain in India to support Mandhana. The Brisbane Heat agreed to release her for the remaining four games of the WBBL season.

Rodrigues' decision has been widely praised as an example of true sportsmanship and friendship. Her act of solidarity has resonated with many, highlighting the importance of personal relationships and support during challenging times.
