Ranveer Singh's highly anticipated spy thriller, "Dhurandhar," is generating significant buzz, and fans are eager to know where they can catch it after its theatrical release. The film is slated to hit cinemas on December 5, 2025. According to reports, Netflix has officially acquired the post-theatrical digital rights to "Dhurandhar". The espionage thriller is expected to begin streaming exclusively on Netflix from January 30, 2026.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, known for "Uri: The Surgical Strike," "Dhurandhar" boasts a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, alongside Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in supporting roles. Ranveer Singh takes on the lead role as an Indian intelligence agent. The film is reportedly inspired by real-life incidents, geopolitical conflicts, and covert operations conducted by India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Specifically, the plot draws inspiration from Operation Lyari, a government-led crackdown on local gangs and crime syndicates in the Lyari area of Karachi, Pakistan. Singh's character embarks on a daring mission to infiltrate and dismantle organized crime and terrorism networks.
"Dhurandhar" is poised to be one of the major OTT releases of early 2026, attracting a global audience on Netflix. The film is a fusion of patriotism, underworld deceit, spygame tactics, and action. The narrative emphasizes espionage, betrayals, gritty action, and the emotional toll borne by agents.
The first-look poster and teaser were released on July 6, 2025, coinciding with Singh's 40th birthday. The trailer was launched on November 18, 2025, at an event held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre.
"Dhurandhar" is expected to be a lengthy film, potentially breaking the record for the longest Bollywood film with a runtime of approximately 3 hours and 32 minutes. Some reports suggest the film may be released in two parts, with the second installment arriving in the first half of 2026.
Following the film's announcement, there was speculation that Ranveer Singh's role might be based on Major Mohit Sharma, who went undercover as Iftikhar Bhatt and infiltrated Hizbul Mujahideen in the early 2000s. However, director Aditya Dhar clarified that "Dhurandhar" is a fictional espionage thriller and not a biopic. Principal photography took place from July 2024 to October 2025, with filming locations including Thailand, Mumbai, Punjab, and Ladakh. The film's soundtrack and score are composed by Shashwat Sachdev.
