Alisha Chinai Reveals Kishore Kumar's Silent Treatment During Mr. India Song Recording and Abrupt Departure.

Alisha Chinai, the voice behind iconic Bollywood hits like "Made in India" and "Kajra Re," recently shared her experience recording "Kaate Nahin Katte" from the film Mr. India (1987) with the legendary Kishore Kumar. In a recent interview, Chinai revealed that Kishore Kumar "didn’t speak to me once" during the song's recording.

Alisha, who was barely 21 or 22 at the time, described feeling intimidated by Kishore Kumar, who was more than twice her age and already an established icon. The music was composed by Laxmikant–Pyarelal, and upon arriving at the studio, Alisha learned that she would be singing a duet with Kishore Kumar. This revelation left her "wide-eyed with disbelief" given her limited experience.

According to Alisha, when she was introduced to Kishore Kumar by Laxmikant, he gave her a "very raised-eyebrow look" that seemed to question her singing ability. After that, he "moved on without a word". Despite being in the same recording room, Alisha and Kishore Kumar did not interact. Alisha recalls that Kishore Kumar was "busy clowning around" and "barely acknowledging her presence".

Despite the lack of interaction, Alisha was determined to perform her best. She knew she had to be serious because the song was very romantic. She had rehearsed a day earlier because he was too big an artist to mess around with. She came to the studio fully prepared, ready to deliver her best. Alisha believes the electric atmosphere and vibe in the studio contributed significantly to the song's success.

"Kaate Nahin Katte," picturized on Sridevi and Anil Kapoor, became iconic for its sizzling chemistry and powerful duet. Alisha has called it her favourite Kishore Kumar song. She feels fortunate to have sung a duet with him in her lifetime.

In recent years, Alisha Chinai has been more selective about her work in Bollywood. In an interview with Free Press Journal, Alisha revealed that she had been bored with Bollywood music. She felt burnt out as an artist and wanted to do something different. She also spoke about copyright issues, injustice, and unfair play in the industry. She said that singers were being made to sign contracts that were, in her opinion, completely illegal. As a result, she refused to sign them, which led to fewer opportunities.
