Jeetendra's heartfelt homage to Dharmendra on Indian Idol 16: Acknowledging Dharmendra's profound impact on his life.

Mumbai, December 1, 2025 – Bollywood veteran Jeetendra delivered a moving tribute to his close friend, the late superstar Dharmendra, on the set of Indian Idol 16. The special "Yaadon Ki Baraat" episode was dedicated to celebrating Dharmendra's enduring legacy, and Jeetendra's presence added a deeply personal touch to the occasion.

Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24 at the age of 89, was remembered fondly by Jeetendra, who shared a friendship with the legendary actor that spanned nearly five decades. The Indian Idol 16 contestants paid their respects by performing songs from Dharmendra's iconic filmography, creating an emotional atmosphere on set.

Jeetendra was visibly moved during the tribute. While details of his specific words weren't fully available, his presence alone spoke volumes about the bond he shared with Dharmendra.

Singer and rapper Badshah, a judge on Indian Idol 16, was also deeply affected by the tribute. Overcome with emotion, Badshah expressed his admiration for Dharmendra, describing him as the true embodiment of Punjab's spirit. "Dharam paaji was the real essence of Punjab, and now it feels as if that beautiful fragrance and essence has been lost from the soil of our own Punjab," Badshah said. "He was Dharam Paaji, everybody's, every fan's ideal idol".

Badshah concluded his tribute by reciting a poignant shayari (a form of Urdu poetry) often recited by Dharmendra: "Sab kuch paakar bhi, haasil-e-zindagi kuch bhi nahi, Kambakkht jaan kyun jaati hai jaate hue," which translates to, "Despite achieving everything, life's true gain is nothing; Why does this wretched life have to end?".

Dharmendra's passing sent shockwaves through Bollywood and across the nation. Just a day after his death, on November 25, numerous prominent figures visited the Deol family home to offer their condolences. Jeetendra, despite his own age, made a point of visiting the family to offer his support during their time of grief.

Dharmendra's death came just weeks before what would have been his 90th birthday on December 8. The actor had faced health challenges in recent times, including a period of being on a ventilator due to breathing difficulties. He had been discharged from the hospital and was receiving treatment at home before his passing.

Jeetendra and Dharmendra shared a close friendship and worked together in several films, including The Burning Train, Dharam Veer, Dharma Karma, and Kinara. Their bond extended beyond their professional collaborations, making Jeetendra's tribute on Indian Idol 16 all the more heartfelt. The episode served as a reminder of Dharmendra's immense contribution to Indian cinema and the void his absence leaves behind.
