M. Saravanan, the veteran Tamil cinema producer and owner of AVM Studios in Chennai, has passed away at the age of 86 due to age-related illness. The news of his death on Thursday morning, December 4, 2025, has sent shockwaves throughout the film industry.

Born in 1939, AVM Saravanan, also known as AVM Saravanan, played a pivotal role in AVM Productions, assisting his father, A.V. Meiyappan, and his brother, M. Balasubramanian, in managing the renowned AVM Studios since the 1950s. He celebrated his 86th birthday just yesterday. His death is being mourned as the end of an era.

Saravanan's career spanned decades, during which he championed numerous cinematic classics and modern hits. AVM Productions continued its journey into the modern era, backing projects such as 'Leader' (2010) in Telugu and 'Idhuvum Kadandhu Pogum' (2014). In 2022, the banner bankrolled its first web series, Tamil Rockerz, for Sony LIV. Saravanan also served as the Sheriff of Madras in 1986.

The film fraternity, family, and admirers are gathering to pay their respects to the legend. His mortal remains will be placed for public homage until 3:30 PM today at AVM Studios, providing an opportunity for friends, family, colleagues, and fans to bid farewell to the celebrated producer. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin paid respects to the family.

Actor Vishal shared his condolences on social media, reminiscing about meeting Saravanan as a kid, assistant director, actor, and producer at AVM Studios, which he considered a learning ground.

Saravanan is survived by his son, MS Guhan, who is also a producer, and daughter Usha. His legacy will be continued by his family.
