Tom Felton Reflects on Hair's Resilience After Years of Draco Malfoy's Bleach Treatments.

Tom Felton, best known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the "Harry Potter" film series, recently expressed his astonishment at still having hair, considering the extensive bleaching required for the role. The actor, now 38, spent a significant portion of his younger years undergoing frequent and intense hair bleaching treatments to achieve Draco's signature platinum blonde look.

Felton played Draco Malfoy in all eight "Harry Potter" films, becoming a recognizable figure with his distinct pale blonde hair. Achieving this look, however, was far from simple. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Felton humorously acknowledged the potential downsides of such frequent hair transformations. "There are definitely downsides to dyeing your hair that frequently; the fact I still have hair at all is pretty remarkable," he stated.

In his memoir, "Beyond the Wand," Felton delved into the arduous process of transforming his hair for the role. He recounted how it wasn't a simple, one-time dye job but rather multiple treatments of peroxide and dye to reach the desired shade. The actor described the discomfort, comparing the sensation of the peroxide on his scalp to "fire ants nibbling". Initially, it took six or seven rounds of bleaching over several days to achieve the specific color required by the filmmakers, who needed to see how Draco's blonde hair would appear alongside the Weasleys' red hair and Hermione's brown hair.

Felton revealed that during the decade-long filming of the "Harry Potter" movies, he endured this harsh bleaching routine hundreds of times. Given the intensity and frequency of these treatments, it's understandable why the actor is surprised he hasn't lost more hair.

Currently, Felton is performing as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child". However, he no longer needs to subject his hair to the rigors of bleaching. Instead, he now wears a wig for the role, which he says instantly helps him get into the Malfoy mindset. He also jokingly agreed with the saying that "blondes have more fun," reflecting on his time embodying the character.

Reflecting on his early experiences on the "Harry Potter" set, Felton shared that his family played a significant role in supporting him during the first three films, with his mother, grandfather, and older brother Chris all acting as his chaperones at various times. He fondly remembered how his brother Chris, while serving as his chaperone during the filming of "Prisoner of Azkaban," introduced him to fishing, which has since become a lifelong passion.

Despite the challenges and discomfort associated with the constant hair transformations, Felton has expressed a certain fondness for the Draco look. While he was relieved to be done with the bleaching process after the final movie, he admitted to having grown "quite oddly attached" to the platinum blonde.
