In a surprising turn of events, the son of a legendary filmmaker, once a familiar face in Bollywood alongside superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, has traded the arc lights for the boardroom. After a brief but memorable stint in the Indian film industry, marked by both successes and a high-profile flop, he has now emerged as the CEO of a US-based company.
Abhishek Bachchan, son of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, initially stepped into the cinematic world with the moderately successful drama film Refugee (2000). Although coming from a family synonymous with Bollywood royalty, Abhishek carved his niche, delivering critically acclaimed performances in dramas such as Yuva (2004), Sarkar (2005), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). These roles won him three consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actor. His success as a lead actor was further cemented with the comedy Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and the drama Guru (2007), both earning him nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He also starred in commercially successful films such as Dus (2005), Dhoom 2 (2006), Dhoom 3 (2013), Dostana (2008), Bol Bachchan (2012), Happy New Year (2014) and Housefull 3 (2016).
However, like many actors, Abhishek faced his share of setbacks. One particular show, All Is Well (2015), didn't resonate with audiences and received negative reviews. While he continued to explore acting through streaming ventures like Breathe: Into the Shadows (2020), Ludo (2020) and Dasvi (2022), and received praise for roles in smaller dramas such as Ghoomer (2023) and I Want to Talk (2024), his career trajectory began to shift.
Beyond acting, Bachchan has cultivated a thriving business empire with an estimated net worth of Rs 280 crore. His journey as an entrepreneur began in 2014 with the purchase of the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the Pro Kabaddi League. This investment grew more than 100 times in value. He also co-owns the Indian Super League football team Chennaiyin FC. Bachchan has also invested in global brands. Further solidifying his position in the business world, Bachchan streamlined his finances and investment portfolios through his family office.
While details regarding the specific US company remain undisclosed, this move signifies a significant shift for Bachchan, leveraging his business acumen and leadership skills in a new arena. He has also contributed to films like Paa, Shamitabh, and Ghoomer as a producer. Bachchan's journey reflects a multifaceted career, navigating the entertainment industry and business ventures with equal passion. In early 2025, Bachchan became the co-owner of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL). He also stated that his first love is still acting.
