Vikram Bhatt Arrested In Rs 30 Crore Fraud Case: Report
Mumbai, Dec 7, 2025 - Bollywood director Vikram Bhatt has been arrested by a joint team of Rajasthan and Mumbai Police in connection with an alleged ₹30 crore fraud case. The arrest follows an FIR lodged by Dr. Ajay Murdia, the founder of Indira IVF, at the Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
According to the FIR, Dr. Murdia and his wife were allegedly persuaded to invest over ₹30 crore in film projects pitched by Bhatt and his associates, including a biopic, with promises of returns up to ₹200 crore. The complaint alleges that these projects either never materialized or were released without proper credit or returns to the investor. The FIR also names Bhatt's wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, their daughter Krishna Bhatt, and several others.
Authorities issued a lookout notice for Bhatt, his wife, and six other accused before the arrest. Following his arrest in Mumbai, Rajasthan Police are seeking a transit remand from a Bandra court to take Bhatt to Udaipur for further investigation.
Prior to his arrest, Bhatt had denied the allegations, dismissing the FIR as "misleading" and suggesting that the police had been given false information. He claimed that certain documents presented by Dr. Murdia may have been forged. Bhatt also stated that he had not received any formal notice regarding the complaint before his arrest.
Bhatt has further alleged that Dr. Murdia halted the production of a film titled "Virat" midway, resulting in unpaid dues of approximately ₹250 crore to technicians.
Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal stated that the FIR alleges an agreement between Dr. Murdia and Bhatt's company for producing movies and documentaries as a tribute to Dr. Murdia's late wife. The complainant alleges that the production house failed to deliver the movies as per the contract, and the films produced did not give rightful attribution. He also noted that the movie with the highest budget was never started.
In November 2025, police arrested co-producer Mehboob Ansari and vendor Sandeep Trilobhan from Mumbai in connection with the case. They were remanded to Udaipur court until November 23. Authorities have indicated that more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
