Veteran Bollywood actor Prem Chopra, known for his extensive career and iconic villainous roles, has been diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis. The news was confirmed by his son-in-law, actor Sharman Joshi, who shared an update on the actor's health via an Instagram post.
Aortic stenosis is a condition where the aortic valve narrows, restricting blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body. In Chopra's case, the stenosis was classified as severe, necessitating medical intervention.
According to Joshi's statement, Prem Chopra underwent a successful Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure. TAVI is a minimally invasive procedure used to replace a narrowed aortic valve without open-heart surgery. During the procedure, a new valve is inserted through a catheter, typically inserted through an artery in the leg, and guided to the heart.
Joshi expressed his gratitude to the medical team involved in Chopra's care, specifically mentioning cardiologists Dr. Nitin Gokhale and Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao. He credited Dr. Rao for successfully performing the TAVI procedure and Dr. Gokhale for his guidance throughout the process. Joshi stated that their expertise ensured a smooth procedure, complication-free treatment, and a fast recovery for Chopra.
Following the procedure, Prem Chopra has reportedly recovered well and has returned home. Joshi indicated that the veteran actor is feeling much better.
Sharman Joshi also shared photos from the hospital, showing Prem Chopra in good spirits with his doctors. Another veteran actor, Jeetendra, was also seen in the pictures, suggesting he visited Chopra during his hospital stay.
News of Prem Chopra's diagnosis and successful treatment has been met with relief and well-wishes from fans. Social media has been flooded with messages wishing the actor a speedy and full recovery.
The TAVI procedure has become an increasingly common treatment option for severe aortic stenosis, particularly for patients who are not ideal candidates for traditional open-heart surgery. It offers a less invasive approach with a shorter recovery time. The fact that Prem Chopra, a senior actor, was able to undergo this procedure and recover quickly highlights the advancements in modern cardiology and the availability of effective treatments for age-related heart conditions.
