The Actor Who Almost Starred in Taare Zameen Par, His Life, and Relationship With Co-Star.

Rajit Kapur, a name synonymous with versatility in Indian cinema and theatre, has carved a niche for himself with memorable performances across various mediums. While many know him for his portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in "The Making of the Mahatma", his role as the endearing detective Byomkesh Bakshi, or his more recent appearances in films like "Raazi," a lesser-known fact about Kapur is that he was initially considered for the role eventually essayed by Aamir Khan in the critically acclaimed film "Taare Zameen Par."

In a recent interview, Aamir Khan revealed that filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar was first approached for the role. However, due to emotional distress after "Laal Singh Chaddha" did not perform well, Aamir decided to take a break from acting and only produce the film. Later, during script reading sessions, he changed his mind and decided to take up the role. However, Akshaye Khanna was writer Amole Gupte's first choice for the role of art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh in "Taare Zameen Par". Aamir wanted to hear the story first to recommend it to Akshaye, but liked it so much that he did the film himself. Khanna said that he had no issue with Aamir taking the role and that Aamir was superb in the film.

Born on May 22, 1963, in Amritsar, Punjab, Rajit Kapur's journey in the world of acting began with theatre. He honed his skills on stage before venturing into films and television, showcasing his dedication to the craft. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sydenham College.

Despite his successful career, Rajit Kapur has consciously kept his personal life private. In various interviews, he has stated that he is unmarried and has no children. When asked about his marital status, Kapur has often humorously replied that he is "married to theatre," emphasizing his deep commitment and passion for the stage.

While details about his past relationships are scarce, it is known that he was in a serious relationship with actress Shernaz Patel, who starred in the film "Khosla Ka Ghosla." The two were a prominent couple in the Mumbai theatre circuit for many years, known for their on-stage and off-stage chemistry. However, they eventually parted ways, but the reasons for their separation remain private.

Rajit Kapur continues to be an influential figure in the Indian entertainment industry, balancing his time between theatre, film, and television projects. While "Taare Zameen Par" remains a significant film in Aamir Khan's career, it's interesting to note the different paths that could have been taken, with Rajit Kapur once in consideration for the lead role. Aamir Khan is currently filming for the sequel of "Taare Zameen Par" which is titled "Sitaare Zameen Par". The film will focus on Ishaan's journey and is set for a Christmas release.
