Amitabh Bachchan Reflects on Physical and Mental Constraints on Work
In a recent reflection on his personal blog, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, 83, has shared candid insights into the challenges he faces as his body and mind become less responsive to the demands of his rigorous work routine. The Bollywood icon, who has been captivating audiences for over five decades, opened up about the realities of aging and its impact on his ability to perform.
Bachchan noted a shift in his daily life, emphasizing the need for earlier rest and a change in his work schedule. He reminisced about a Sanskrit "shlok" from his father, the poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, about the importance of rising early and resting well, and the consequences of neglecting these habits. He also mentioned going to the "workshop of the body" and then "work of the sound," suggesting a focus on physical and vocal exercises to maintain his capabilities.
In August 2025, Bachchan spoke about how tasks that were once effortless now require conscious effort. He admitted to installing "handlebars" around his home to assist with simple actions like bending down. "Some routines that were there earlier, seem to suggest that because it was done some years ago, it shall be a cake walk to initiate them again. NAH .. no baby. Just one days absence and the pains and the mobility goes for a very long walk," he wrote. He also noted that his body is gradually losing its balance, requiring him to focus on yoga, breathing exercises, and mobility training.
Bachchan has also alluded to the lingering presence of memories and past experiences, suggesting a reflective state of mind. This introspection comes at a time when the actor is still actively involved in numerous projects. Despite the physical difficulties, Bachchan's dedication to his craft remains evident.
Bachchan's health has been a topic of public interest for many years. He contracted Hepatitis B following a blood transfusion after an accident on the set of "Coolie" in 1982. This resulted in 75% of his liver being damaged. In March 2024, he was briefly hospitalized for an angioplasty, which he later dismissed as "fake news".
Despite these challenges, Bachchan continues to inspire millions with his resilience and positive attitude. He maintains a disciplined lifestyle and often shares motivational messages on social media. In September 2025, he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Jab tak Jeevan hai, tab tak sangharsh hai, chaliye sangharsh karte (As long as there is life, there is struggle. Let us continue to struggle)".
Bachchan's recent projects include Nag Ashwin's "Kalki 2898 AD". He is also set to appear alongside Rajinikanth in "Vettaiyan," marking his Tamil film debut.
Bachchan's openness about the realities of aging resonates with many of his fans. His willingness to share his struggles with work routine and physical limitations provides a glimpse into the life of a beloved icon navigating the challenges of time while continuing to pursue his passion.
