Mumbai and Pune are experiencing a surge of enthusiasm for the recently released film "Dhurandhar," starring Ranveer Singh, resulting in theaters adding midnight shows to meet the overwhelming demand. The Aditya Dhar directorial, which hit theaters on December 5, 2025, has captivated audiences, prompting exhibitors in Mumbai and Pune to schedule screenings around the clock.
The decision to add late-night and early-morning shows comes after the film's surprising box office debut. Initial predictions estimated an opening of ₹18-20 crore, but "Dhurandhar" exceeded expectations, earning ₹27 crore on its opening day. This marks the best opening in Ranveer Singh's career and one of the biggest openings for a Hindi film in 2025, second only to "Chhaava," which earned ₹31 crore. The film's success is attributed to positive word-of-mouth, which boosted collections after initial advance bookings of ₹14 crore.
Several theaters across Mumbai have responded to the demand by adding shows in the late-night and early-morning hours. Maxus Cinema in Bhayandar is hosting as many as eight shows in the late-night/early-morning period, effectively screening the film almost non-stop. Other cinemas, including PVR Sangam in Chakala, Eros Cinema, PVR Citi Mall, and MovieMax Sion, have also added shows at 1:50 AM, 6:00 AM and other early morning slots. Metro INOX has a screening at 1:30 AM. In Pune, shows are commencing from 12:20 AM onwards.
This trend of midnight and early-morning shows has become increasingly common in the post-COVID era for high-demand films. "Dhurandhar" joins a list of recent blockbusters, including "Pathaan," "Animal," "Stree 2," and "Oppenheimer," that have also offered late-night screenings in response to overwhelming audience interest.
"Dhurandhar" features an ensemble cast, including Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, alongside Ranveer Singh and child actor Sara Arjun. The film's story and music have generated significant buzz, contributing to its popularity.
While the film's box office numbers have been impressive, there have been unconfirmed reports of manipulation through block bookings. Nevertheless, the strong audience response and the addition of midnight shows indicate that "Dhurandhar" has captured the attention of moviegoers in Mumbai and Pune.
